Since its founding in 1865, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers has actively fought to improve our members’ quality of life – on and off the job – through access to fair wages, good benefits, safe working conditions, and solidarity among members.

Today, we represent the most highly skilled trowel trades craftworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, tilesetters, terrazzo and mosaic workers, and pointers/ cleaners/ caulkers. With over a century of protecting the rights of our workers, BAC is the oldest continuous union in North America. 

We are interested in hiring veterans for various reasons including but not limited to:

• Veterans often possess technical and leadership skills that are highly transferable to the construction trades. Their experience with operating machinery, understanding complex systems, and following detailed plans aligns well with the demands of construction work.
• Military training instills a strong work ethic, discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure. These qualities are highly valued in construction, where adherence to safety protocols and deadlines is critical.
• Veterans are trained to work effectively in teams and take on leadership roles when needed. This experience makes them well-suited for both collaborative and supervisory positions in the construction industry.
• The military teaches critical thinking and problem-solving under challenging circumstances. Veterans bring this ability to identify issues and implement solutions swiftly, which is essential in the fast-paced environment of construction projects.
• Military personnel are accustomed to adapting to new environments and challenges. This flexibility allows them to thrive in the dynamic and sometimes unpredictable nature of construction work.
• Veterans are mission-driven, often showing a deep commitment to their work. In construction, this translates to a dedication to completing projects to a high standard, on time, and within budget.
• Offering veterans employment opportunities in the construction trades provides them with a clear path to reintegrate into civilian life. It offers stability, purpose, and the chance to build a rewarding career post-service.
• Hiring veterans promotes diversity and inclusion within the workforce. Veterans bring unique perspectives and experiences that can enhance team dynamics and contribute to the overall success of construction projects.
